Prey for the Devil (2022)

Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

In response to a global rise in demonic possessions, the Catholic Church reopens exorcism schools to train priests in the Rite of Exorcism. On this spiritual battlefield, an unlikely warrior rises: a young nun, Sister Ann. Thrust onto the spiritual frontline with fellow student Father Dante, Sister Ann finds herself in a battle for the soul of a young girl and soon realizes the Devil has her right where he wants her.

The Quartile Take

Prey for the Devil follows a well-worn exorcism horror template with few surprises — the premise of a nun entering the exorcism school adds a mild twist but the story quickly devolves into familiar demonic possession tropes lifted from The Exorcist lineage. The acting is competent, with Jacqueline Byers bringing some earnestness to Sister Ann, though the supporting cast is largely underdeveloped. Cinematography is polished and atmospheric for a mid-budget horror entry, making solid use of shadow and religious iconography. Novelty is low because the film recycles standard possession/exorcism beats without a distinctive voice or memorable set pieces. The ending feels rushed and unsatisfying, leaning on sequel-baiting rather than delivering a proper resolution.
