Battlestar Galactica: Razor (2007)

Quartile rating: 7/10 · 1 rating

The history and adventures of the Battlestar Pegasus, from shortly before the Cylon invasion to shortly after Lee Adama is made commander. The story is told through the eyes of and largely focuses on one particular member of Pegasus's crew, Kendra Shaw.

The Quartile Take

Battlestar Galactica: Razor is a solid TV movie that expands the BSG universe by exploring the Pegasus storyline through Kendra Shaw's perspective. The nonlinear storytelling adds some depth and the Admiral Cain flashbacks are compelling, but the overall narrative feels somewhat constrained by its prequel nature, filling in gaps rather than charting new territory. Acting is competent and consistent with the series standard, with Michelle Forbes reprising her memorable Cain role effectively. Cinematography matches the series' gritty, handheld aesthetic without meaningfully elevating it. Novelty is limited — it's a made-for-TV prequel/companion piece that largely recycles established BSG tone, imagery, and themes without a truly distinctive vision of its own. The ending is emotionally resonant with Shaw's sacrifice carrying genuine weight, though it falls short of the series' best dramatic conclusions.
