A young NASA JPL scientist is abducted by extraterrestrials but when no one believes his story he becomes obsessed with finding proof which leads him on a journey of discovery.
Proximity follows a fairly familiar alien abduction narrative — a lone witness seeking proof while being hunted by shadowy government forces. The premise has well-worn roots in the genre, and while the film executes it competently with some genuine heart, it doesn't distinguish itself meaningfully from similar sci-fi thrillers. The acting is uneven, with the lead giving a serviceable but unremarkable performance and supporting characters feeling underdeveloped. Cinematography is functional and occasionally attractive, benefiting from its Costa Rica location work, but nothing visually distinctive. The ending resolves without much surprise or emotional payoff, leaving things feeling somewhat anticlimactic for a low-budget indie sci-fi effort.
