Bugonia is a remake of the South Korean dark comedy Save the Green Planet (2003), which limits its novelty somewhat despite the updated satirical lens on capitalism and corporate power. The plot is serviceable dark comedy territory — conspiracy paranoia meets absurdist thriller — executed with moderate energy but without the sharp escalation or tonal control of its source material. Acting is competent with the lead performances carrying the comedic paranoia reasonably well, though the material doesn't demand exceptional range. Cinematography is fairly conventional for the genre, functional but unremarkable. The ending struggles to land the tonal balance between dark satire and emotional payoff, feeling somewhat deflated given the premise's potential.
