The Quartile Take

Cyberbully (2011) tackles a then-timely topic of online harassment with some earnestness, and Emily Osment delivers a committed performance that elevates the material. However, the plot is fairly predictable and heavy-handed in its messaging, hitting familiar after-school-special beats without much nuance. The cinematography is functional TV-movie fare with little visual ambition. The ending feels rushed and overly tidy, undercutting the gravity of the subject matter. Novelty gets a slight bump for addressing cyberbullying before it became a fully saturated topic in popular media, giving it a degree of cultural currency at the time of release.
