Books of Blood is a Hulu anthology horror adaptation of Clive Barker's stories that struggles to fully capture the source material's visceral imagination. The three interwoven tales feel uneven and undercooked, with the connective tissue between them not quite justifying the tangled structure. Acting is serviceable with a capable cast doing decent work within limited material. Cinematography is competent but rarely elevates the dread. As a Barker adaptation it carries some inherent novelty from the source, but the execution feels relatively generic for modern horror anthologies. The endings across the segments land with varying degrees of satisfaction, generally leaving viewers underwhelmed.
