In 1988, young sisters Katie and Kristi befriend an invisible entity who resides in their home.
Paranormal Activity 3 is generally considered the strongest entry in the franchise, primarily because of its genuinely unsettling finale. The oscillating fan camera rig is a memorable technical innovation that generates real dread, earning above-average marks for cinematography. The child performances add an unexpected naturalism to the acting. However, the found-footage formula is well-worn by this third installment, and the plot largely retreads familiar slow-burn territory with only incremental mythology expansion. The ending, revealing the grandmother's cult and recontextualizing the entire franchise, is a legitimately shocking payoff that stands out as a high point in the series.
