After the discovery of a mysterious VHS tape, a brutish police SWAT team launches a high-intensity raid on a remote warehouse, only to discover a sinister cult compound whose collection of pre-recorded material uncovers a nightmarish conspiracy.

The Quartile Take

V/H/S/94 refreshes the found-footage anthology format by leaning into an analog, late-90s aesthetic that gives it a genuinely grungy, distinctive texture—the RAW segment in particular stands out for its gonzo escalation. Cinematography earns a bump for committing hard to degraded VHS grain and period-accurate video distortion, which is more intentional craft than it first appears. However, the anthology's segments are wildly uneven: some feel like competent short horror exercises while others drag or rely on shock over substance. Acting across the cast is functional at best, serviceable found-footage work without standout performances. The wraparound conspiracy framing never coheres into anything satisfying, leaving the ending feeling deflated rather than climactic. Novelty is above average for the subgenre—the analog commitment and segment variety keep it from feeling fully formulaic—but it doesn't transcend its anthology horror DNA enough to be truly singular.
