The Possession (2012)

The Quartile Take

The Possession follows a fairly standard haunted-object/demonic-possession template but earns mild novelty points for drawing on Jewish folklore and the real-world dybbuk box legend rather than the usual Catholic exorcism framework. The acting, particularly Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the concerned father, is solid and elevates otherwise thin material. Cinematography is competent genre work with some effectively creepy imagery. The plot is predictable and borrows heavily from genre predecessors, offering little in the way of surprise or tension beyond its Jewish mythology hook. The ending is unsatisfying and rushed, failing to deliver a meaningful payoff for the buildup. A serviceable but forgettable mid-tier horror entry.
