Intrusion (2021)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

When a husband and wife move to a small town, a home invasion leaves the wife traumatized and suspicious that those around her might not be who they seem.

The Quartile Take

Intrusion is a formulaic home-invasion thriller that follows a predictable trajectory with a twist that most viewers can see coming well in advance. The plot relies heavily on genre clichés and fails to build genuine suspense or deliver meaningful surprises. The acting is serviceable but unremarkable, with Freida Pinto and Logan Marshall-Green doing competent but uninspired work within the constraints of a thin script. The cinematography is the film's strongest suit, with clean, modern compositions that give the suburban setting an appropriately eerie veneer. Novelty is low — the premise recycls well-worn home-invasion and 'husband is not who he seems' thriller tropes without adding a distinctive voice or fresh angle. The ending resolves the mystery in a rushed and unsatisfying way that undermines whatever tension had been built.
