Apartment 7A (2024)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

A struggling young dancer finds herself drawn in by dark forces when a peculiar, well-connected older couple promise her a shot at fame.

The Quartile Take

Apartment 7A is a Rosemary's Baby prequel that treads very familiar ground — the satanic cult setup, the gaslighting older couple, the naive young woman manipulated toward a dark fate are all well-worn territory borrowed directly from its source material. The plot offers little surprise for anyone familiar with the 1968 Polanski film, and the ending is constrained by its prequel nature, leaving little room for genuine tension or resolution. Julia Garner delivers a committed performance that elevates the material, and the period production design is competent, but the film struggles to justify its existence as a standalone work. Its novelty is low given how derivative it is of its predecessor.
