Desperate to avoid his family’s judgment about his perpetual single status, Peter convinces his best friend Nick to join him for the holidays and pretend that they’re now in a relationship. But when Peter’s mother sets him up on a blind date with her handsome trainer James, the plan goes awry.
Single All the Way is a lightweight but charming Netflix holiday romcom that earns modest marks for being one of the first mainstream gay Christmas films from a major streamer, giving it a small novelty edge. The plot is thoroughly formulaic — the fake-dating trope is well-worn and the outcome is telegraphed from the first scene — keeping Plot at below average. Acting is above average thanks to a likable lead duo and a scene-stealing Jennifer Coolidge who elevates the material. Cinematography is standard holiday-TV fare with glossy but unremarkable visuals. The ending is warm and satisfying if predictable, landing squarely above average for the genre's expectations.
