After Everything (2023)

Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

Besieged by writer’s block and the crushing breakup with Tessa, Hardin travels to Portugal in search of a woman he wronged in the past – and to find himself. Hoping to win back Tessa, he realizes he needs to change his ways before he can make the ultimate commitment.

The Quartile Take

The fifth entry in the 'After' franchise follows a predictable redemption arc for the troubled Hardin, with him soul-searching in picturesque Lisbon. The plot is formulaic and emotionally thin, recycling the same push-pull relationship dynamics that have defined the series. Acting remains competent but unremarkable, with the leads delivering performances that service the melodrama without elevating it. Cinematography benefits from the Portuguese setting, offering some visually appealing location work that is the film's strongest asset. Novelty is low — as a sequel in a franchise built on fanfiction tropes, it offers nothing distinctive or fresh. The ending wraps things up in a tidy, predictable fashion that will satisfy fans of the series but offers little dramatic surprise.
