After a zombie becomes involved with the girlfriend of one of his victims, their romance sets in motion a sequence of events that might transform the entire lifeless world.
Warm Bodies offers a charming and refreshing take on the zombie genre by centering a romance between a zombie and a human, told from the zombie's perspective with dry internal monologue humor. The concept is genuinely fun and the leads (Nicholas Hoult and Teresa Palmer) have decent chemistry. However, the plot leans heavily on Romeo and Juliet parallels in an obvious way, and the third act resolves too neatly and predictably. Cinematography is competent but unremarkable, mostly functional genre work. The ending in particular feels rushed and overly tidy, undercutting the darker tonal possibilities. Novelty is above average for blending zombie horror with teen romance comedy, but it doesn't push far enough to be truly singular.
