Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating
While quarantining at her family's lake house during the pandemic, Parker and her best friend are threatened by an unexpected visitor.
Sick is a lean, efficiently made slasher that uses the COVID-19 pandemic setting as a distinctive hook, giving it a modest novelty bump over typical home-invasion fare. The pandemic quarantine backdrop is genuinely fresh for the genre and the filmmakers wring real tension from it. However, the plot is thin even by slasher standards, and the third-act revelation of the killer's motive feels contrived and undercooked, dragging the ending down. Acting is serviceable — the leads are credible enough to carry the chase sequences, but no performance is particularly memorable. Cinematography is competent with solid use of the lake house setting and some well-staged suspense sequences. Overall a capable but minor genre entry.
