The Quartile Take

The Invitation (2022) is a fairly generic Gothic horror-thriller that cribs heavily from Dracula lore without adding much to it. The premise of an unsuspecting woman lured into a vampire lord's web is well-worn territory, and the screenplay doesn't inject enough originality or tension to elevate it. Acting is serviceable but unremarkable, with thin characterization limiting what the cast can do. Cinematography is competent — the English countryside mansion setting is atmospheric and reasonably well-shot. The ending devolves into generic action-horror chaos that fails to deliver satisfying payoff. Novelty is low given how derivative the concept and execution feel within the vampire genre.
