You're Next subverts the home-invasion horror formula with a clever twist — the supposed victim turns out to be a highly capable survivalist — giving it a fresh angle that elevates it above generic genre fare. The plot construction is reasonably tight and the twist lands well, though the family dynamics and early setup feel clunky. Acting is uneven; the family members are broadly sketched and performances range from serviceable to unconvincing, though Sharni Vinson is a genuine standout as Erin. Cinematography is functional and gritty in the indie horror mold but nothing visually distinguished. The ending delivers satisfying payoff for the subversive premise without overstaying its welcome, though it doesn't quite stick the landing on all its genre commentary.
