We Have a Ghost (2023)

Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

After Kevin finds a ghost named Ernest haunting his new home, he becomes an overnight social media sensation. But when Kevin and Ernest go rogue to investigate the mystery of the latter's past, they become targets of the CIA.

The Quartile Take

We Have a Ghost blends haunted house comedy with social media satire and a CIA thriller angle, giving it a moderately fresh premise. The acting is serviceable with a likable cast including David Harbour as Ernest, but the plot loses coherence as it shifts tones awkwardly — the CIA subplot feels grafted on and the mystery of Ernest's past doesn't pay off satisfyingly. Cinematography is competent but unremarkable for a Netflix production. The ending deflates rather than delivers, wrapping up the emotional beats too neatly and cheaply. Its novelty lies in the social media angle and the silent, expressive ghost character, which are genuine distinguishing touches, but the film ultimately doesn't fully capitalize on its interesting setup.
