Near future. Lera Arabova is a 15-year-old girl who lives with her family in Vladivostok. Lera's father has been working at the orbiting space station "Mira" for many years and has long lost contact with his daughter, turning only into a voice on the phone. After a meteor shower hits the city, Lera has only one chance to save her loved ones and the city from a new disaster. Her father helps her in this - through satellite surveillance systems and the telephone, he uses every opportunity to send a message to his daughter, watching from above from the station her every step.

The Quartile Take

Mira (2022) is a Russian family sci-fi drama with a warm emotional core built around estrangement and reconnection between a father and daughter across the ultimate distance. The plot is competent and emotionally grounded but follows a fairly familiar disaster-adventure structure with a young protagonist navigating crisis. Acting is solid for a family-oriented production without being remarkable. Cinematography captures Vladivostok and the space station adequately but doesn't push into visually distinctive territory. The premise of a remote father guiding his daughter via satellite surveillance has a genuinely appealing novelty, though it doesn't fully exploit its unique setup. The ending resolves too predictably and sentimentally, lacking the punch or ambiguity that would elevate it.
