The X-Files: I Want to Believe (2008)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

Mulder and Scully are called back to duty by the FBI when a former priest claims to be receiving psychic visions pertaining to a kidnapped agent.

The Quartile Take

The second X-Files film feels like an extended episode rather than a worthy big-screen outing. The standalone monster-of-the-week plot involving organ harvesting and a disgraced psychic priest lacks the mythological ambition fans expected, and the Mulder-Scully relationship drama feels repetitive. The acting from Duchovny and Anderson remains competent but uninspired, while the cinematography is serviceable but unremarkable. The film offers little that distinguishes it from the TV series, and the resolution is unsatisfying, failing to justify the film's existence as a theatrical feature.
