Slither (2006)

Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

A small town is taken over by an alien plague, turning residents into zombies and all forms of mutant monsters.

The Quartile Take

Slither is a gleefully trashy creature-feature that wears its B-movie heart proudly. James Gunn's directorial debut blends splatter horror with sharp comedy effectively, and the ensemble (especially Michael Rooker's grotesque transformation) delivers committed performances. The cinematography is competent genre work without much visual ambition. Novelty is decent — it synthesizes influences like Night of the Creeps and The Blob with genuine wit and a distinct authorial voice, though it isn't wholly original. The ending deflates somewhat, resolving the alien threat in a fairly routine climax that doesn't match the inventive energy of the middle act.
