On Quartile, The Faculty scores 6.5/10 across five categories — strongest on Plot (Above Average), weakest on Novelty (Below Average).
When some very creepy things start happening at Herrington High, the students begin to suspect that their faculty is being controlled by body-snatching aliens.
The Faculty is a competent and entertaining late-90s genre mashup that wears its Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Thing influences openly. Robert Rodriguez brings kinetic energy and some stylish direction, keeping things moving at a brisk pace with solid cinematography for a teen horror film. The ensemble cast — featuring a mix of young stars and veteran character actors — delivers serviceable work that suits the material, though no one is asked to stretch particularly far. The plot is familiar body-snatchers territory given a high school social hierarchy twist, which adds modest freshness but the concept is well-worn. The ending leans into wish-fulfillment convenience and wraps up a little too neatly, undercutting the paranoid tension built throughout. Novelty suffers most — it's essentially a knowing, self-aware remix of prior sci-fi horror classics without adding much that's genuinely its own. A fun, watchable genre entry that doesn't transcend its derivative foundations.
