Following the latest Ghostface killings, the four survivors leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.
Scream VI moves the franchise to New York City, a fresh setting that injects some energy into the formula, and the opening subversion of expectations is a highlight. However, the film remains largely derivative of its predecessors in structure and whodunit mechanics, with a reveal that feels contrived and unsatisfying. The NYC backdrop is underutilized cinematographically — there are some effective set pieces (the bodega, the subway) but the overall visual palette is workmanlike. The ensemble cast, led by Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, performs competently, though characters remain thinly written. Novelty suffers as the film recycles franchise beats without reinventing them meaningfully, and the ending leans into an overstuffed climax that strains credibility even by slasher standards.
