After his revival in a hospital morgue, Jason fixes his vengeful attention on the Jarvis family and a group of hitherto carefree teenagers.
A competent but formulaic entry in the Friday the 13th franchise, The Final Chapter delivers the expected slasher goods — inventive kills, decent pacing, and a memorable young Tommy Jarvis subplot — but breaks virtually no new ground in terms of plot or character. The acting is serviceable at best, with a few performers (Corey Feldman, Crispin Glover) standing out in an otherwise wooden ensemble. Cinematography is workmanlike but effectively atmospheric in the woodsy lake setting. The ending, featuring Tommy's unhinged dispatching of Jason, is genuinely memorable and gives the film a darker, more disturbing closing note than most franchise entries. Novelty is low — it's very much a by-the-numbers sequel despite its production polish.
