The Quartile Take

Good Boy is a Norwegian horror-thriller that earns genuine marks for its deeply unsettling and singular premise — a man kept as a human 'dog' by a millionaire is a genuinely disturbing and distinctive conceit that feels fresh within the genre. The film builds dread effectively and the cinematography maintains a cold, clinical Scandinavian aesthetic that suits the material. Acting is competent, with the leads conveying mounting unease believably. However, the plot loses momentum in its second half, relying increasingly on genre conventions once the central mystery is revealed, and the ending feels abrupt and somewhat unsatisfying, failing to fully capitalize on the tension built earlier. The novelty of the premise is the film's strongest asset.
