When a kingpin threatens New York City, a group of mutated turtle warriors must emerge from the shadows to protect their home.
The 2014 reboot of TMNT is a glossy but hollow action blockbuster. The plot retreads familiar superhero origin beats with little invention, and the script reduces the turtles' charm to crude humor and quips. Acting is serviceable at best, with Megan Fox's April O'Neil feeling miscast and the villain underwritten. Cinematography is competent Michael Bay-produced spectacle with some kinetic action sequences, particularly the mountain chase, earning it a slight bump. Novelty suffers as the film strips away much of what made the original property distinctive, feeling like a generic superhero reboot rather than a faithful or creative reimagining. The ending is a formulaic rooftop climax with stakes that never feel earned.
