A college campus is plagued by a vicious serial killer murdering students in ways that correspond to various urban legends.

The Quartile Take

Urban Legend has a genuinely clever hook — using urban legends as murder templates — that gives it some distinction within the late-90s post-Scream slasher wave. The premise offers fun, recognizable set pieces. However, the plot is riddled with contrivances, red herrings that don't hold up, and a twist ending that feels rushed and poorly motivated. The acting is serviceable but unremarkable despite a recognizable cast. Cinematography hits the glossy, competent late-90s studio horror standard. The novelty earns a bump for the creative central conceit, even if the execution is derivative of Scream's self-aware formula. The ending undermines much of what came before with an unconvincing reveal.
