Date Movie is a lazy, scatter-shot parody that strings together crude gags and pop-culture references with virtually no coherent narrative structure. The plot is essentially nonexistent beyond a thin wedding framework used to hang disconnected spoofs of films like My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Hitch, and Meet the Parents. The acting is hammy and one-note even by spoof standards, and the cinematography is flat and functional at best. While the spoof genre itself has some novelty potential, Date Movie recycles the same Scary Movie formula with diminishing returns and little distinctive voice. The ending is abrupt and unsatisfying, wrapping up a story that was barely there to begin with.
