Material Girls is a formulaic riches-to-rags comedy that offers little beyond its basic premise. The plot follows a predictable arc with no real surprises, the acting from Hilary and Haylie Duff is serviceable but unremarkable, the cinematography is flat and TV-movie quality, the concept is entirely derivative of countless fish-out-of-water comedies, and the ending resolves everything neatly in an uninspired fashion. Across the board it sits at below-average to average in every dimension.
