The Quartile Take

A fairly standard pop star concert documentary that follows the well-worn template of behind-the-scenes access, personal moments, and live performance footage. The cinematography captures the vibrant, candy-colored spectacle of Perry's Californiaz Dreams Tour with reasonable competence, but the film is largely promotional in nature, offering little critical distance or genuine depth. The narrative arc around her marriage breakdown adds some unexpected emotional weight but is handled superficially. Acting is not really applicable in a meaningful way. Novelty is low as it hews closely to the Justin Bieber: Never Say Never blueprint. The ending wraps up neatly and inspirationally but without much lasting impact.
