When the Littles adopt Stuart, the mouse, George is initially unwelcoming to his new brother, and the family cat, Snowbell, is even less enthusiastic. Stuart resolves to face these difficulties with as much pluck and courage as he can muster.
Stuart Little is a competent family film that blends CGI and live action effectively for its era, but its plot is fairly thin and predictable — a standard 'outsider finds family' arc with little surprise. The acting from the human cast (Geena Davis, Hugh Laurie) is warm and committed, and the voice work for Stuart and Snowbell adds charm. Cinematography is serviceable but unremarkable family-film fare. Novelty gets a slight bump for the technically impressive CGI mouse integration in 1999, which was genuinely ahead of its time, though the story itself follows familiar beats. The ending resolves neatly but without any particular emotional punch or memorable resolution beyond tidy closure.
