When Sheriff Roy Pulsipher finds himself in the afterlife, he joins a special police force and returns to Earth to save humanity from the undead.
R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned is a low-budget direct-to-video prequel that transplants the R.I.P.D. concept to the 1870s American West. While the Western setting provides a mild twist on the original, the film largely retreads familiar territory with a formulaic fish-out-of-water afterlife cop story. The plot is predictable and underdeveloped, the acting is serviceable but unremarkable, cinematography is adequate for its budget without any distinctive visual flair, and the ending resolves things competently but without surprise or emotional resonance. The Western backdrop adds marginal novelty but not enough to distinguish it meaningfully from derivative genre fare.
