The Quartile Take

Marked for Death is a fairly by-the-numbers early Seagal vehicle with a rote retired-cop-turned-vigilante premise. The plot hits familiar beats without much surprise, and the acting is serviceable at best — Seagal is stoic as ever while Basil Wallace's Screwface villain chews scenery entertainingly but inconsistently. Cinematography is competent for the era with some decent action staging. The voodoo/Jamaican gang angle gives it a mild exotic flavor but doesn't elevate it above genre formula. The ending, including its surprise twist on the villain's identity, is mildly clever but quickly deflated.
