Asha, a sharp-witted idealist, makes a wish so powerful that it is answered by a cosmic force – a little ball of boundless energy called Star. Together, Asha and Star confront a most formidable foe - the ruler of Rosas, King Magnifico - to save her community and prove that when the will of one courageous human connects with the magic of the stars, wondrous things can happen.
Wish is a disappointingly formulaic Disney centennial film that fails to live up to its ambitious premise. The plot is thin and predictable, with underdeveloped characters and motivations that feel recycled from better Disney films. King Magnifico starts with potential as a villain but becomes generic, while Asha lacks the depth of modern Disney protagonists. The voice acting is competent but unremarkable, with performances that feel safe rather than inspired. Cinematographically, the film attempts a storybook watercolor aesthetic blended with 3D animation that is visually interesting in places, elevating it slightly above average in that department. However, the novelty is low — despite being a meta-celebration of Disney's wish-granting legacy, the execution is derivative and feels like a checklist of Disney tropes rather than a fresh vision. The songs, written to evoke classic Disney, largely fail to be memorable. The ending resolves predictably with little emotional payoff, squandering the setup's potential. Overall, a middling entry in Disney's canon that despite good intentions feels hollow.
