In New York City, a crime lord's right-hand man is seduced by a woman seeking retribution.

The Quartile Take

Dead Man Down is a serviceable neo-noir revenge thriller with competent but unremarkable execution. The plot weaves together two parallel revenge storylines with decent intrigue but becomes increasingly convoluted and implausible toward the climax. Colin Farrell and Noomi Rapace deliver committed, emotionally grounded performances that elevate the material above its genre trappings. Niels Arden Oplev's direction has some visual flair—moody atmosphere and decent urban framing—but nothing that stands out cinematographically. The concept of mirrored vengeance seekers is interesting but the film retreads familiar crime thriller territory without adding much distinctive to the genre. The ending devolves into a chaotic, overblown shootout that undermines the more intimate emotional tension built earlier, feeling both rushed and generic.
