The Naked Gun (2025)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

Only one man has the particular set of skills... to lead Police Squad and save the world: Lt. Frank Drebin Jr. Following in his father's footsteps, he must solve a murder case to prevent Police Squad from closure.

The Quartile Take

The 2025 Naked Gun reboot/sequel leans heavily on the legacy of the beloved Leslie Nielsen originals, recycling familiar slapstick set-pieces and spoof conventions without meaningfully updating the formula. Liam Neeson's casting as Frank Drebin Jr. is a meta-joke that wears thin, and while there are individual laughs, the plot is perfunctory and derivative. Cinematography is workmanlike for the genre — functional but unremarkable. Novelty is low because it largely retreads existing DNA from the franchise and broader spoof tradition rather than finding a fresh comedic voice. The ending resolves predictably with little payoff. A passable but forgettable entry that coasts on nostalgia.
