D-Tox (2002)

Quartile rating: 5.5/10 · 1 rating

A disgraced FBI agent with a drinking problem joins nine other troubled law enforcement officers at an isolated detox clinic in the wilds of Wyoming. But the therapeutic sanctuary becomes a nightmarish hellhole when a major snowstorm cuts off the clinic from the outside world and enables a killer on the inside to get busy.

The Quartile Take

D-Tox is a fairly generic late-career Stallone thriller that blends the isolated-setting slasher with the serial killer procedural without adding much fresh to either genre. The premise has potential but the execution is formulaic — the snowbound clinic setting recalls better films, the kills are routine, and the mystery lacks genuine tension or surprising twists. Stallone's presence elevates the acting category slightly above the material, and some supporting cast members do solid work, but the script underserves them. Cinematography is competent but unremarkable, leaning on darkness and bleak winter visuals without distinctive style. The ending resolves without much impact or memorability. Overall a below-average entry in both the thriller and horror genres.
