The Quartile Take

War (2007) is a passable action-thriller pairing Jason Statham and Jet Li, but it struggles to rise above genre conventions. The plot is fairly formulaic — revenge-driven FBI agent chasing a mysterious assassin — with a twist ending that feels more gimmicky than satisfying, though it does inject some energy into the third act. Acting is serviceable but neither lead is given much character depth to work with. Cinematography is competent with some slick action staging typical of mid-2000s Hollywood action films. Novelty is limited as it largely recycles tropes from the hitman and crime thriller subgenres without a distinctive voice or creative risk-taking.
