The Quartile Take

My Spy: The Eternal City is a formulaic sequel that recycles the fish-out-of-water spy comedy premise of the original with minimal fresh invention. The nuclear-plot-at-the-Vatican MacGuffin is genre boilerplate, and the story beats are predictable throughout. Dave Bautista's easy comedic chemistry with his young co-star remains the film's main draw, elevating the material above its script's limitations. The Rome setting provides decent visual backdrop but is photographed in a fairly standard blockbuster-lite style. The ending resolves neatly but without surprise or emotional punch. Overall a serviceable but unremarkable family action-comedy that coasts on established goodwill rather than breaking new ground.
