The Quartile Take

A French comedy built on a pleasingly farcical premise—two very different men manipulated into believing they're the father of a missing boy—gives the film a reasonably entertaining comic engine, though the premise is somewhat familiar as a battle-of-personalities farce. The acting is competent and charming in the French tradition without being remarkable. Cinematography is functional and unremarkable for an early-80s French comedy. The novelty lies mainly in the comedic contrast between the two male leads rather than any distinctive directorial voice. The ending resolves things predictably without much dramatic or comedic payoff beyond what the setup promised.
