Eccentric consulting detective Sherlock Holmes and Doctor John Watson battle to bring down a new nemesis and unravel a deadly plot that could destroy England.
Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes is a solid reimagining of the classic detective, leaning into action and wit over traditional mystery. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law deliver genuinely standout chemistry and performances, elevating the material considerably. The plot is entertaining but somewhat formulaic for a blockbuster mystery — the supernatural-turned-rational reveal is competent but not surprising. Cinematography is stylish with Ritchie's signature kinetic energy but not exceptional. Novelty is moderate: the action-forward steampunk Victorian aesthetic was fresh at the time but not wholly singular. The ending wraps things up adequately with sequel setup, functional but unremarkable.
