In the last moments of World War II, a secret Nazi space program evaded destruction by fleeing to the Dark Side of the Moon. During 70 years of utter secrecy, the Nazis construct a gigantic space fortress with a massive armada of flying saucers.
Iron Sky earns its cult status almost entirely on the audacity of its premise — Nazis on the Moon with flying saucers is genuinely one-of-a-kind high-concept B-movie madness. The cinematography and VFX are surprisingly polished for an indie crowdfunded production, giving the film a visual credibility that outpaces its budget. However, the plot is thin and lurches between broad satire and campy action without fully committing to either, and the acting ranges from intentionally hammy to just plain flat. The ending descends into incoherence, squandering the satirical potential set up earlier. A fun novelty that struggles to sustain itself beyond its killer hook.
