Quartile rating: 8/10 · 2 ratings
Unscrupulous boxing promoters, violent bookmakers, a Russian gangster, incompetent amateur robbers and supposedly Jewish jewelers fight to track down a priceless stolen diamond.
Snatch is a kinetic, stylish crime caper with Guy Ritchie's signature rapid-cut editing, bold visual flair, and a sprawling ensemble that delivers genuine comedic and dramatic energy. Brad Pitt's unintelligible bare-knuckle boxer is a standout performance in a uniformly strong cast. The cinematography is energetic and distinctive with creative transitions and a sharp visual identity. However, the plot is deliberately convoluted in ways that occasionally feel more like a trick than substance, and the ending — while satisfying — is more of a clever payoff than a genuinely surprising or resonant conclusion. Novelty is solid but somewhat derivative of Lock, Stock, which Ritchie made just two years prior, limiting how singular it feels.
