Police Story 2 (1988)

Quartile rating: 7/10 · 1 rating

The Hong Kong super-cop must stop a group of blackmailing bombers at the same time that the villains of the first Police Story are out for revenge.

The Quartile Take

Police Story 2 delivers what fans expect: Jackie Chan's kinetic stunt work and physical comedy, culminating in a genuinely spectacular warehouse/fireworks factory finale that earns its place among Hong Kong action highlights. However, the plot is a step down from the original — the dual-threat structure (revenge subplot plus bomber blackmail) feels stretched and episodic, and the film leans heavily on the formula established by its predecessor rather than pushing into new territory. Acting is functional and charming in the Chan ensemble tradition. Cinematography is competent Hong Kong action filmmaking of the era — efficient but not artistically ambitious. The ending setpiece is the clear standout, a breathtaking practical-stunt showcase that remains iconic.
