College freshman Sydney White arrives at Southern Atlantic University, determined to pledge her late mother's sorority. Unfortunately, she finds that the sisterhood has changed since her parent's day. Banished to a condemned house, Sydney joins forces with seven outcasts to take over the student government and win equal rights for nerd and noted alike.

The Quartile Take

Sydney White is a mildly charming Snow White retelling set in college Greek life, with Amanda Bynes carrying the film on likability alone. The modern fairy tale conceit (seven dorks instead of dwarfs, sorority villain instead of evil queen) gives it modest novelty as a campus comedy, but the execution is formulaic and the script rarely rises above its premise. Acting is largely serviceable with broad caricatures filling the supporting roles. Cinematography is flat and unremarkable made-for-teen-audiences work. The ending is predictable and tidy in the most conventional rom-com fashion, offering no surprises. A watchable but forgettable entry in the mid-2000s teen comedy genre.
