Tom and Hannah have been platonic friends for 10 years. He's a serial dater, while she wants marriage but hasn't found Mr. Right. Just as Tom is starting to think that he is relationship material after all, Hannah gets engaged. When she asks Tom to be her 'maid' of honor, he reluctantly agrees just so he can attempt to stop the wedding and woo her.
Made of Honor is a thoroughly formulaic romcom that borrows liberally from My Best Friend's Wedding and other friends-to-lovers templates. The plot offers no surprises — every beat is telegraphed well in advance, and the Scotland third-act detour adds scenery but little substance. Patrick Dempsey is charming and Michelle Monaghan is likable, lifting the material above its script's limitations, but neither is given much to work with. The cinematography is competent and pleasant, particularly the Scottish Highland sequences, but nothing distinctive. Novelty is low — the gender-swapped maid-of-honor angle is the film's one fresh hook, but it's a thin gimmick that doesn't disguise the recycled plotting underneath. The ending resolves exactly as expected with no earned emotional payoff, feeling rushed and unearned.
