Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating
A sheriff's deputy fights an alternate universe version of himself who grows stronger with each alternate self he kills.
The One has a reasonably distinctive sci-fi action premise built around a multiverse-draining power fantasy, but the execution is shallow. Jet Li's dual performance is serviceable but not demanding, the plot is thin and predictable, and the ending is underwhelming. Visually, the film has some memorable slow-motion action sequences that were stylistically of their era (post-Matrix wire-fu), giving it a slight cinematographic edge, but it doesn't transcend its B-movie roots.
