Tremors 3: Back to Perfection (2001)

Quartile rating: 5.5/10 · 1 rating

Survivalist Burt Gummer returns home to Perfection, to find that the little town has been shaken up again by morphing, man-eating Graboids.

The Quartile Take

Tremors 3 is a direct-to-video sequel that largely rehashes the premise of the original and its immediate predecessor. The graboids evolving into a new form (Ass Blasters) adds a minor wrinkle, but the plot is formulaic and predictable, cycling through the same beats of discovery, panic, and improvised monster-fighting. Michael Gross reprises Burt Gummer competently and carries the film on his shoulders, but the supporting cast is largely forgettable and delivers middling performances. The cinematography is workmanlike direct-to-video fare with flat lighting and unambitious framing. Novelty is minimal — the franchise concept was already well-established by this point, and the third entry adds little distinctiveness beyond the new creature stage. The ending resolves in a perfunctory manner consistent with the rest of the film. A serviceable but entirely unremarkable entry in a modest franchise.
