A pair of buddies conspire to save their best friend from marrying the wrong woman, a cold-hearted beauty who snatches him from them and breaks up their Neil Diamond cover band.
Saving Silverman is a broad, lowbrow comedy with a goofy premise — kidnapping a buddy's fiancée to save him from a domineering woman and rescue their Neil Diamond cover band — that gives it a slightly distinctive comic flavor compared to generic rom-coms. The plot is thin and predictable, relying on escalating slapstick rather than clever construction. The acting is serviceable but unremarkable; Jason Biggs, Steve Zahn, and Jack Black do what they can with broad material, though Zahn and Black have moments of genuine energy. Cinematography is utterly functional with nothing to distinguish it visually. The ending wraps up in a formulaic, feel-good way without earning its resolution. The Neil Diamond angle and the gleefully dumb commitment to its absurd premise give it a modest novelty edge over purely by-the-numbers fare.
