Blood & Gold (2023)

Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

At the end of World War II, a German soldier is looking for his daughter while an SS troop is looking for a Jewish treasure.

The Quartile Take

Blood & Gold is a competent but formulaic grindhouse-adjacent WWII action film. The plot hits familiar beats — deserter seeks redemption, hidden treasure, Nazi villains — without offering much narrative depth or surprise. Acting is serviceable but uneven, with characters drawn broadly in exploitation-film tradition. Cinematography is reasonably polished for its budget, with decent location work in German forests, though nothing visually distinctive. Novelty is low: the grindhouse-WWII hybrid has been done before and this entry brings little new to the subgenre. The ending resolves predictably without resonance or surprise, tying things up in a by-the-numbers fashion.
